DUSHANBE, May 5, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Residents of the village of Dehqonobod and the Youth Ecology Center have participated in an international action, 65 trees in Honor of the Great Victory, which was initiated by the Russian Children’s Ecological and Biological Center and the International Social-Ecological Union to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Victory in World War II, Jamshed Qodirov of the Youth Ecology Center told Asia-Plus Wednesday afternoon.
“65 trees symbolize the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory,” said Qodirov, “Despite the name of the action, participants are not limited to the number of trees. The main thing is to pay tribute to those who defeated fascism and those who forged the victory on the home front.”
Ms. Mavlouda Ahmadova, the chairperson of women’s center in the Parastou mahalla, Hissar district, noted that they had thought about the worthy celebration of the 65th anniversary of Victory in World War II since last year’s Victory Day. “When we read about the action in the Tabiat (The Nature) magazine, we decided to join it,” Ahmadova said.
In all, more than 10 families from the Dehqonobod village participated in the action today, planting more than 230 fruit and decorative trees.
