KHUJAND, May 7, 2001, Asia-Plus -- No polio case has been reported in Sughd province, Mumin Bobojonov, the head of the Sughd immunization center, announced at a news conference in Khujand on May 6.
According to him, only one suspected acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) case has been registered in the Takfon jamoat, Ayni district. “The girl came from Dushanbe and her samples have been sent for testing to Moscow,” Bobojonov said.
He added that a three-round polio immunization campaign was being carried out in the province amongst 321,922 children aged 0 to 6. 173,758 children, or 54.1 percent of the targeted population have bee vaccinated by May 6.
Ms. Shoira Buzrukova, the deputy chairperson of the Sughd health directorate, noted that 482,000 doses of the polio vaccine had been delivered to the province.
We will recall that the first round of the National Immunization Days against polio is taking place on May 4-8, 2010 and will be followed by another two rounds on May 18-22 and June1-5. Almost 1.1 million children aged 0 to 6 across Tajikistan will receive two drops of the live-saving polio vaccine during each round.
