DUSHANBE, May 13, 2010, Asia-Plus -- The Government of Armenia on May 13 made a decision to allocate 100,000 U.S. dollars to support Tajikistan that was seriously affected powerful flood, Armenia media reported.
“Taking into account that the powerful flood caused human casualties and serious damage to Tajikistan’s economy, the Government of Armenia has decided to allocate 100,000 U.S. dollars to support Tajikistan,” Armenian Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan noted at the government meeting on May 13.
Floods and mudflows that hit a number of districts in Khatlon province have caused serious damage to Tajikistan’s economy. Many people were killed by floods and many others are still missing and feared dead. According to Armenian media, damage caused to Tajikistan is estimated at 600 million U.S. dollars.
