DUSHANBE, May 21, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) welcomes Tehran declaration on nuclear swap deal that was signed by the presidents of Iran and Brazil and the Turkish prime minister on May 17, the OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu told reporters in Dushanbe yesterday.

“We back this agreement and consider it a tool towards peaceful solution of Iran’s nuclear issue,” Mr. Ihsanoglu noted.

According to him, participants at the three-day CFM gathering in Dushanbe considered a broad range of issues related to economic and cultural cooperation, human rights problems, etc.

“During the meeting, we also discussed ways to expand cooperation between the Central Asian countries and other Muslim states,” the OIC secretary general said.

He also noted that on May 19, the meeting adopted a resolution condemning Israel’s actions in Palestine.  “Besides, we released an appeal to the international community for supporting promotion of peace and wellbeing in the Palestine Authority,” said Ihsanoglu.  “The session also adopted the resolution condemning Israel for the occupation of the Palestine and Syrian Golan Heights.”

Besides, appropriate resolutions were adopted on Afghanistan and Nagorny Karabakh, he added.

The OIC secretary general highly appraised the OIC CFM session held in Dushanbe, noting that it was useful and fruitful.
