Dushanbe. June 21. “Asia-Plus” -- Not a single polio case has been revealed in Tajikistan in the past three weeks, Deputy Minister of Health and Chief Sanitary Doctor of Tajikistan Azam Mirzoev told the AP.

He added that only 20 polio patients remain in hospitals, but all of them are expected to be discharged next week. He said that latest analysis shows that the number of polio cases in Tajikistan has exceeded 200 people, while the number of people with polio symptoms from the very beginning of polio outbreak (late March) exceeds 500.

According to the Director General of the Republican Immunoprophylaxis Center under the Tajik Health Ministry Shamsiddin Jobirov, the fourth – additional phase of nation-wide polio vaccination campaign ended in Tajikistan last Saturday, June 19. “The results of the campaign are being estimated,” he said.

Meanwhile, Russia has not officially removed its travel ban on Tajik children under 6 years of age which was introduced due to polio outbreak in the republic. However, children are not forbidden to enter the Russian Federation. “Tickets are free for children and there are no obstacles for children to travel from Tajikistan to Russia,” Mirzoev has said.
