Dushanbe. June 25. “Asia-Plus” -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not expect soonest resolution of situation connected with the blockage of Tajik rail cargoes on the territory of Uzbekistan.

Luc Moers, IMF Resident Representative in Tajikistan, said that resolution of this issue is hardly possible as this issue is politicized. 

“Under agreements with IMF, both Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have related liabilities to promote free trade in the region. IMF is about to raise the implementation of the agreement during the forthcoming visit to Uzbekistan,” he said.

However, Mr. Moers said nothing about the date of IMF’s representatives visit to Uzbekistan. “I’m not aware about the schedule. In general, IMF does not visit Uzbekistan very often since the fund does not have any specific program there. But during a regular visit this issue will be discussed with Uzbek officials,” he said, adding that a series of other organizations are also dealing with the given issue.

Starting from February this year Uzbekistan unreasonably blocks cargoes designed for Tajikistan. According to the Tajik Railways state-owned unitary enterprise, more than 1,500 freight wagons with cargoes designed for Tajikistan are being currently blocked on the territory of Uzbekistan.
