DUSHANBE, July 16, 2010, Asia-Plus -- A 40-year-old resident of Dushanbe, Khurshed Jourayev, was detained at the Dushanbe airport yesterday on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking, according to the Customs Service press service.
An inspection of passengers on the Dushanbe-Moscow flight found towel impregnated with heroin in his luggage.
Nourullo Sharifov, a spokesman for the Customs Service, told Asia-Plus that specialists from the counternarcotics agency’s lab had extracted more than 425 grams of heroin from the towel.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Khurshed Jourayev and an investigation is under way.
