DUSHANBE, July 22, 2010, Asia-Plus -- State and prospects of further expansion of cooperation were a major topic of a meeting of Finance Minister Safarali Najmiddinov with representatives of the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), Mr. David Stanton and Mr. Tom Kelly, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) press service.
The sides, in particular, discussed issues related to cooperation both in bilateral and multilateral formats as DFID works here in partnership with the Government of Tajikistan and international donor community (World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and others), the press service said.
Mr. Najmiddinov noted that further expansion of cooperation would promote mitigation of negative effects of the ongoing global financial crisis on Tajikistan’s economy.
The Department for International Development (DFID) is a United Kingdom government department. It was separated from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1997.
DFID has been present in Tajikistan since 2003 and is working with the Government and donors to support the eradication of poverty and promote sustainable development.
