DUSHANBE, July 24, 2010, Asia-Plus -- As of June 1, 2010, there were some 48,000 officially registered jobless in Tajikistan and women constituted 53.1 percent (more than 25,000) of them, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
Meanwhile, the source at the Ministry of Employment and Social Protection says 5,822 people have applied to the employment centers for jobs over the first six months of this year. “More than 19,000 of them have been given status of unemployed and more than 15,000 others have been placed in jobs,” the source said.
He added that the country’s employment centers have organized 283 job vacancy fairs over the same six-month period and 2,170 people have bee placed in jobs through the fairs.
According to the statistics from the Ministry of labor and Social Protection, as of April 1, 2010, the number of economically active population in Tajikistan was 2.155 million people. In January-May this year, an average monthly wage amounted to 343.40 somoni.
