KHUJAND, July 24, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Sughd authorities are taking measures to combat malaria mosquitoes.
Specialists from the Sughd Regional Center to Fight Tropical Diseases jointly with employees from international organization, Save the Children, are currently destroying breeding places for mosquitoes in Isfara and Ghonchi districts. The campaign is carried out with support from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund), the center director Mumin Qurbonov said.
According to him, they have completed some 60 percent of work to this day.
“The anti-malaria campaign is being carried in the Lakkon and Navgilem jamoats in Isfara and the Qizili jamoat in Ghonchi,” said Qurbonov, “These settlements have been chosen because malaria cases were detected in these areas last year – one in each of these villages.”
