DUSHANBE, July 28, 2010, Asia-Plus -- In January-June this year, all types of transportation have shipped some 7.9 million tons of cargo, which is 13.2 percent fewer than in the same period last year, Minister of Transport and Communications Olim Boboyev remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 27.
According to him, cargo shipments by automotive transportation and cargo shipments by air have increased over the report period by 28.1 and 25 percent respectively, while cargo shipments by rail transportation have decreased by 4.6 percent over the same six-month period.
“Decrease in rail shipments has resulted from Uzbekistan’s halting of freight cars bound for Tajikistan,” the minister said.
In the meantime, all types of transportation have carried more than 80.6 million passengers over the report period, which is 6.8 percent more than in January-June last year, Boboyev noted.
