DUSHANBE, August 9, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Tajik Journalists’ Union and the National Association of Independent Media of Tajikistan (Nansmit) organize a meeting tomorrow to discuss a new draft law “On the Press and Other Mass Media,” authored by parliamentarians, the Nansmit head Nouriddin Qarshiboyev said in an interview wit Asia-Plus.
“Freedom of media needs support of civil society and we call on journalists to actively participate in the discussions so that they will take into account realities of life and opinions of journalists while adopting the new media law,” the Tajik media watchdog head noted.
“We invite media and human rights organizations, media and journalists to take an active part in the discussion of the law and development of legal foundation of the media activities in the country,” Qarshiboyev added.
We will recall that the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) plans to adopt the new edition of the law “On the Press and Other Mass Media,” authored by MPs Olim Salimzoda and Akramsho Fellaliyev. The media law is currently under consideration in the provinces.
