KHOROG, August 24, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Teachers and parents organizations of a number of high schools in Gorno Badakhshan plan to incorporate into a single association.
A workshop to discuss these issues took place in Khorog last Saturday. The workshop brought together representatives from local authorities, regional and district education departments, local self-government institutions, and a number of teachers and parents associations.
Speaking at the meeting, Shavkat Khosabekov, the member of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at Khorog’s School # 7, noted that they planned to promote establishing PTAs at schools of Khorog and the districts and incorporate them into the GBAO PTA in the future.
With assistance from the GBAO education directorate and the GBAO Institute for Improvement of Professional Education, the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe and the World Bank Civil Society Fund intend to support us, he said.
According to him, consolidating efforts of teachers and parents organization, they will facilitate their active participation in management of schools and the education system as a whole, encourage parent involvement, support teachers, as well as mobilize teachers, parents, as well ass government agencies and public associations to provide additional financial support to local schools, and thereby enhancing the quality of education.
The project is planned to be implemented in the city of Khorog as well as Ishakshim, Rushan, Roshtqala and Shugnan district. If the project is successful, such events will be held in other districts of the region as well.
