DUSHANBE, September 7, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will depart for New York on September 18 to attend the 65th session of the United Nations General, the source at the Tajik Government said.
According to him, Tajik leader will deliver a statement at the session. During his stay in New York, Rahmon will also hold bilateral meetings with a number of heads of international organizations and countries.
President Rahmon is expected to hold talks with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and top managers of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The source added that it could not be ruled out that Tajik leader would hold meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.
The 65th Ordinary Session of the United Nations, over which Swiss politician Joseph Deiss will preside, opens on September 14. General debate runs on September 23-25 and September 27-30. Sustained economic growth and sustainable development top the preliminary agenda for the debate. A review of UN peacekeeping operations and of UN efficiency is also listed for debate. Other expected topics are Iran''s refusal to halt uranium enrichment and Israel''s May 31 raid on Gaza-bound aid boats.
