DUSHANBE, September 8, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Security measures will be tightened in Dushanbe and other regions of the country in connection with events to celebrate Tajikistan’s Independence Day that is marked on September 9, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
“Public places and strategic facilities will be taken under special control,” said the source at a MoI, “Our main task is to provide security of people and ensure holding of celebrations in normal and calm situation.”
In the meantime, all law enforcement and power-wielding structures of the country have been on heightened alert since August 23, when 25 convicts serving long jail terms escaped from the pretrial detention facility in the center of Dushanbe, killing five prison guards.
