DUSHANBE, October 2, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi on October 1 met here with Mr. Miroslav Jenca, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), according to the Tajik MFA information department.

The sides discussed issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Nations and exchanged views on the latest developments in the region, border control issues, fight against drug trafficking and a number of other issues being of mutual interests.

Mr. Jenca arrived in Tajikistan on September 30 for a three-day working visit to hold talks with a number of high-ranking Tajik state officials.

The United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia was inaugurated in December 2007 to help the region’s countries respond more proactively to cross-border challenges and threats before they can become costlier and more difficult to control.

The Center is tasked with assisting the governments of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in building capacities to peacefully prevent conflict, in facilitating dialogue, and in catalyzing international support behind projects and initiatives.
