DUSHANBE, October 5, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Specialists from Dushanbe International Airport have taken a training course on transportation and shipment of dangerous goods at St. Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation, the Dushanbe International Airport press service said.

Shipment and receipt of dangerous goods by transport means requires special permit, serious training and great responsibility.  International shipments must comply with both the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instructions, as well as national regulations and only persons that took special training are engaged in transportation and shipment of dangerous goods, the press service noted.

“Our specialists that have taken training course in St. Petersburg were given certificates and they now may train specialists on types and categories of shipment and receipt of dangerous goods by air,” the source said.

Dushanbe International Airport is one of transit airports in Central Asia that ships and receives dangerous goods.

In order to meet commercial standards, shippers are required to meet the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations.  Furthermore, some countries and airlines have filed variations to many of these requirements.  Failure to comply with any of these may result in legal charges, but most importantly, costly delays.
