DUSHANBE, October 8, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- Jamoliddin Nouraliyev, the First Deputy Minister of Finance also chairman of the commission for recapitalization of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), on October 7 met here with Kenneth Sullivan, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s team for providing technical assistance in the recapitalization of Tajik central bank.

According to the Ministry of Finance (MoH), the two exchanged views on topical issues and problems of the banking and finance sphere in Tajikistan.

In the course of the talks, Mr. Sullivan expressed readiness to cooperate in that direction in the future as well, the source said.

Nouraliyev, for his part, underlined the significance of further expansion of cooperation on that subject.

The recapitalization of the NBT is a main condition under the IMF Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and a priority for the NBT’s management.  The IMF is working closely on this question.

The global financial crisis strongly affects the Tajik economy.  The Tajik authorities adopted a policy plan to address the consequences of the crisis.  This includes support provided by Development Partners and the IMF, which approved a Three-Year Arrangement under the ECF to support the NBT''s efforts to ensure an adequate level of foreign exchange reserves.
