DUSHANBE, October 13, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Tajik government has allocated 3.012 million somoni this year to support domestic leather and wool producers, according to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI).
The source at a MoEI says the allocated funds have been distributed to industrial enterprises engaged in processing leather and wool into manufactured goods.
Open joint-stock company (OJSC) Kuhandiz in Dushanbe, for example, purchased modern equipment from Turkey for 389,000 somoni. The enterprises now processed up to 700,000 skins per year.
874,000 somoni have been allocated for modernization of limited liability company, Pomir-Charm. That has allowed increasing the plant’s capacity to 240,000 skins per month.
Besides, funds have been allocated for launching rubber and leather processing enterprises as well as shoe and clothes factories in Dushanbe. These enterprises have created 100 new jobs for residents of Dushanbe, the source added.
We will recall that the government session that took place on October 11 adopted a decision on imposing a ban on wool exports. The wool export ban was reportedly introduced for the purpose of ensuring growth in domestic production.
