DUSHANBE, November 24, 2011, Asia-Plus -- On Wednesday November 23, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi met with German Ambassador to Tajikistan, Ms. Doris Hertrampf.
According to the Tajik MFA information department, Ambassador Hertrampf handed over an invitation note for water conference to Tajikistan. The conference is scheduled to take place in Berlin in March 2012.
Tajik minister reportedly expressed gratitude for organization of such an important event and noted that the water resource management issues were topical in the region.
For her part, Ms. Hertrampf noted that German foreign minister planned to arrange a meeting of heads of delegations of Central Asia’s countries and Afghanistan on the sidelines of the conference.
She also appreciated Tajikistan’s support for election of the German candidate to the International Law Commission (ILC).
We will recall that the U.N. General Assembly on November 17 elected Professor Georg Nolte for a second term (2012-2016) as a member of the International Law Commission. With 175 states supporting the German candidate, Professor Nolte received the highest number of votes among all 49 candidates who competed for the 34 seats to be filled in the election.
Ambassador Hertrampf also made special mention of contribution of Tajik MFA to the case of the release of Estonian pilot, the source said.
The sides also discussed an international conference on Afghanistan that will take place in Bonn, Germany on December 5, 2011.
In the course of the talks, Tajik minister reportedly informed German diplomat of the process of interaction between Tajikistan and the World Bank on implementation of large hydroelectricity projects. Zarifi once again stressed that Tajikistan’s position on implementation of these projects takes into account interests of all countries of the region, the source said.
