DUSHANBE, November 28, 2011, Asia-Plus - The Social-Democratic Party of Tajikistan (SDPT) has decided to postpone the holding of its 12th congress from November 26 to December 4.
SDPT leader Rahmatillo Zoirov says such a decision has been made by the SDPT Political Council in connection with the closure of the Shahritston Pass, connecting Dushanbe and the northern Sughd province, for traffic.
“The delegation of the SDPT organization for Sughd, numbering twelve persons, will arrive in Dushanbe by train on the following Saturday,” Zoirov said.
The congress is expected to review the results of work carried out by the SDPT political council in 20070-2011 and will hear the report of the SDPT verification commission.
The congress will also discuss a new edition of the Charter of the SDPT and elect new members of the SDPT board. The delegates will also determine the tasks and the program of activities of the SDPT for 2011-2015.
Founded in 2002, the Social-Democratic Party was registered on December 20, 2002. It was originally registered as the party of Justice and Development in 1999. Tajikistan''s Ministry of Justice requested the same year that the Supreme Court ban the party''s activities and its registration was canceled. The party re-emerged and was registered under its current name in late 2002. Chairman of the Social-Democratic Party is Rahmatillo Zoirov and the party reportedly has 7,700 members.
