DUSHANBE, December 22, 2011, Asia-Plus -- An operation by officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA) led to the arrest of drug pushers in Dushanbe on December 21.
According to the DCA press center, 10 packages of narcotic drug that tested positive to heroin weighing some 10 kilograms of heroin were found hidden in Hyundai Galloper belonging to resident of GBAO’s Shugnan district. “His passenger – a 27-year-old national of Afghanistan – was also arrested for being an accomplice to the crime,” the source said.
A special joint operation, carried out by officers from the counternarcotics agency’s office in Gorno Badakhshan and border guards on the same day, led to the arrest of an officer from the border service for the Shignan district of Afghanistan Badakhshan province at the border-crossing checkpoint in Tem. Several grams of heroin were confiscated from him, the source noted.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained alleged drug pushers and an investigation is under way.
According to the statistical data from the Ministry of Interior, Tajik law enforcement authorities have seized 4,083 kilograms of narcotics, with more than 496 kilograms of them being heroin, over the first eleven months of this year.
