DUSHANBE, January 9, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- Tajik Ambassador to Turkey Farrukh Sharipov met with Turkish Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin, who is also co-chairman of the Tajik-Turkish commission for trade and economic cooperation, in Ankara at the end of last week.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the process of implementation of protocols that were signed at the previous meetings of the commission as well as issues related to intensification of work of this commission, economic, scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries were in the focus of the meeting.

The two reportedly outlined sectors like tourism, agriculture, light industry, food supplies and minerals as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Turkey.  They also discussed the launch of joint ventures in Tajikistan, training of wide section specialists for Tajikistan and participation of Turkish entrepreneurs in investment projects in Tajikistan.

Turkish minister expressed satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations between the two countries and showed a special interest in the investment projects, the source said.

Idris Naim Sahin, in particular, noted that the Turkish side was ready to expand mutually beneficial economic cooperation with Tajikistan and intensify the work of the joint economic commission.

Established in 2000, the Tajik-Turkish commission for trade and economic cooperation has held seven meetings to this date.  The last meeting of the commission took place in the Tajik capital in 2009.  The next meeting of the Tajik-Turkish commission for trade and economic cooperation is scheduled to take place in Ankara, Turkey in 2012.
