KHUJAND, January 11, 2012, Asia-Plus -- 67 members of extremist organizations were arrested in the northern Sughd province last year, the Sughd police directorate chief Sharif Nazarov told reporters in Khujand on January 10.
“50 of those arrested year are members of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), including 11 residents of Istaravshan, 27 residents of Isfara, 10 residents of Asht, one from Konibodom and one more from the Bobojonghafurov district,” Nazarov said.
Besides, 10 residents of Sughd province were arrested for membership in the Hizb ut-Tahrir and 10 others were arrested on suspicion of being members of the Jamiyati Tablighot organization, the Sughd police directorate chief added.
All these organizations are on the list of organizations banned as extremist in Tajikistan.
