KHUJAND, February 7, 2012 Asia-Plus -- Officers from the Sughd police directorate seized some 70 kilograms of narcotics last month, which is 15 kilograms more than in January 2011, Nasim Olimov, an official with the anti-drug department within the Sughd police directorate, said.
According to him, hashish made a major part of narcotics seized in the province last January – some 66 kilograms.
24 criminal proceedings were instituted on drug charges in Sughd province in January 2011.
More than 575 kilograms of narcotics, including 133 kilograms of heroin, were seized in northern Tajikistan last year, which was 315 kilograms fewer than in 2010.
