DUSHANBE, March 1, 2012, Asia-Plus -- On February 29, President Emomali Rahmon received Mr. Todd Schneider, head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) team.
According to the presidential press service, the sides discussed issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and the Fund as well as socioeconomic development of Tajikistan.
They reportedly expressed satisfaction with the results and prospects of further socioeconomic development of Tajikistan.
Preparation of new tax code of the country, which is one of the most important conditions for investment and entrepreneurial climate in the country, was a major topic of the meeting.
President Rahmon, in particular, noted that the main objective of working out the new tax code is in reducing the number of types of taxes and their amounts so that taxpayers would not conceal their real income and carry out transparent activity, the source said.
It is to be noted that the new tax code is being worked out by the government commission in cooperation with experts from international financial institutions.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, led by Mr. Todd Schneider, visited Dushanbe during February 16 – February 29 to conduct discussions for the Sixth Review of the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) arrangement.
