KHUJAND, March 30, 2012, Asia-Plus -- 1,213 stray dogs posing threat to townsfolk have been destroyed in the northern city of Khujand in 2011 and over the first two months of this year, an official source at the Khujand sanitary service agency said.
According to him, 845 stray dogs were shot last year and 368 other stray dogs have been shot this year. “A special stray animal control team works with our agency and it carries out shooting of stray dogs three times a week,” the source said, noting that the shooting is carried out at 5:00 am.
He further added that hunting guns are used for shooting stray dogs expenses on annihilation of one stray dog is estimated at 76.00 somoni. “This tariff is set by the Sughd antimonopoly commission,” the source said.
