DUSHANBE, June 19, 2012, Asia-Plus – The coins minted in 2011 in five denominations 1.00 somoni, 5 diram, 10 diram, 20 diram and 50 diram have been put into circulation, the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) reports.
A source at Tajik central bank says the new coins have been put into circulation for the purpose of improving circulation of metallic money in the country. The NBT board signed an appropriate resolution on this subject on June 15.
Coins in eight denominations 1.00 somoni, 3.00 somoni, 5.00 somoni, 5 diram, 10 diram, 20 diram, 25 diram and 50 diram are currently in circulation in Tajikistan.
As of January 1, 2012, monetary aggregates totaling 3 billion somoni were in circulation in Tajikistan and coins accounted for some 7.5 percent (22.7 million somoni) of this amount, the source said.
