Humanitarian aid sent to Gorno Badakhshan

DUSHANBE, August 3, 2012, Asia-Plus -- By President Emomali Rahmon’s order humanitarian aid was sent to Gorno Badakhshan yesterday.
A source in the government says the assistance includes food products and clothes for the vulnerable sections of the population.
“A convoy of 82 trucks will carry 427 tons of wheat flour, 158 tons of sugar, 198 tons of rice, 158 tons of vegetable oil, and 80 tons of macaroni,” the source said, noting that a total weight of the assistance is more than 1,000 tons.
The assistance will be distributed to 8,000 families. The beneficiaries include poor families and families with many children, orphaned children and persons with disabilities, and veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
Besides, clothes will be distributed to 1,200 war veterans and persons with disabilities under the age of 18 and orphaned children, the source said.
We will recall that President Emomali Rahmon is scheduled to visit Khorog in late August. President Rahmon will arrive in the city to attend celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
