QURGHON TEPPA, November 13, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Five border guards have been jailed in the southern Khatlon province.

The military court of the Khatlon garrison in Qurhon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province sentenced Captain Nizomiddin Yoqubov, an officer from border unit # 2610 deployed in Khatlon province, to 21 years in prison on November 13.  The sentenced followed his conviction on charges of drug trafficking, illegal border crossing, smuggling, illegally acquiring firearms, loss of military property and exceeding authority.

Four other border guards were in trial together with Captain Yoqubov and they have got different jail terms.

Major Anvarjon Hakimov, chief of the transport service at border unit # 2610, and Senior Lieutenant Alisher Sufiyev, chief of artillery at border unit 2610, were found guilty of service forgery and exceeding authority and were sentenced to five years in prison each.

Captain Zuhursho Mirzoyev from the same border was jailed for three years for illegally acquiring weapons, not reporting a crime and exceeding authority.

Private soldier Jumabek Nourali was found guilty of drug trafficking and was sentenced to twelve years in prison.

The trial of the five border guards began in the military court of the Khatlon garrison on November 1.

We will recall that Captain Nizomiddin Yoqubov was detained with 20 kilograms of hashish on May 17 this year and the preliminary investigation has established the accomplices to the crime.
