DUSHANBE, March 17, 2015, Asia-Plus – Shukurjon Zuhurov has been reelected Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament).
The first sitting of the first session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fifth convocation took place on March 17.
Parliamentarians Olimjon Safarov, Khairiniso Yusufi, Dilshod Ismatulloyev and Rustam Latifzoda (leader of the Agrarian Party of Tajikistan) nominated Shukurjon Zuhurov to the position of the Majlisi Namoyandagon speaker.
The Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon is elected by secret ballot by a majority of the total number of deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon.
Shukurjon Zuhurov was elected unanimously.
Shukurjon Zuhurov was born on September 17, 1954 in the Panj district, Khatlon province. He received his early education in the Panj district before graduating in 1976 from the Moscow Institute of Land Management Engineers. In 1992, he graduated from the Russian Academy of Public Administration.
Shukurjon Zuhurov came to the Majlisi Namoyandagon on February 28, 2010 after he won election in the Rasht single-mandate constituency. On March 12, 2010, he was elected Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon.
Shukurjon Zuhurov is married with five children.
