Chief Accountant Job Description
In any organization’s financial framework, the Chief Accountant plays a cornerstone role. Their expertise is not merely about overseeing accounting functions but about setting standards, ensuring compliance, and influencing strategic financial directions.
At Branch of CNPC CA in the Republic Tajikistan, we’re looking for an experienced and detail-oriented accountant to take on the role of chief accountant. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the accounting department and ensuring that all financial reporting is accurate and timely. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures. Additionally, you will be responsible for preparing tax returns and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in both public and corporate accounting, and will be a Certified Accountant Practitioner (CAP).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the accounting department, including but not limited to financial reporting, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and tax compliance
- Ensure that all financial reporting deadlines are met in a timely and accurate manner
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with international financial/reporting accounting standards (IFR/AS)
- Manage the budgeting and forecasting process for the organization
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy of financial data
- Coordinate audits by external auditors and provide necessary information and support
- Serve as a business partner to other departments within the organization, providing financial analysis and decision-support as needed
- Train and develop accounting staff members, providing mentorship and guidance as needed
- Stay abreast of changes in IFAS and tax laws and regulations and ensure compliance
- Negotiate and manage relationships with vendors and service providers
- Manage special projects as assigned by senior management
- Perform other duties as required
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in an accounting role
- CPA designation
- Working knowledge of IFAS
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent English and Tajik languages, Russian is preferable
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- MBA or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 15+ years of experience in an accounting role
- Experience working in a public accounting firm
- Strong understanding of tax compliance regulations
