DUSHANBE, June 2, 2011, Asia-Plus -- The third meeting of the Tajik-Turkmen intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation will take place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from June 7-8.
The source at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) says the meeting is expected to discuss state and prospects of further expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.
He added that it could not be ruled out that the issue of increase in Turkmen gasoline shipments to Tajikistan would be among major topics of the meeting.
“The sides are also expected to consider issues related to further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in sectors like agriculture, transportation and culture,” the source said, noting that Minister of Energy and Industries Gul Sherali will head the Tajik delegation.
According to data from the Agency for Statistics under of the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan has valued at US$39.5 million over the first four months of this year. This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Turkmenistan estimated at US$600,000 and Tajikistan’s imports from Turkmenistan worth more than US$38.9 million.
