DUSHANBE, July 4, 2011, Asia-Plus  -- Tajik farmers have reportedly reached 54 percent of this year’s repeat crop sowing campaign.

“This year, more than 70,000 hectares of farmland has been allocated to repeat crop sowing, and farmers have carried out the repeat crop sowing campaign on 38,000 hectares to date, which is 54 percent of the target,” the source at the crop production department within the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

According to him, 20,000 hectares have been sown with grains, 154 hectares have been sown with potatoes, and 11,600 hectares have been allocated to mixed fodders.  Besides, vegetables have been planted on 3,600 hectares and watermelons, melons and gourds have been planted on 1,300 hectares.

In the northern Sughd province, 20,500 hectares of agricultural lands have been allocated to the repeat crop sowing, in Khalton province – 38,500 hectares, and districts subordinate to the center – 10,900 hectares, the source added.
