DUSHANBE, August 26, 2011, Asia-Plus  -- Prices of some basic food products have risen during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which began this year on August 1, inconsiderably.

The price of one liter of vegetable oil at Dushanbe’s Shohmansour bazaar has risen from 10.50 to 12.00 somoni.  The cost of ten eggs has risen from 6.50 to 7.00 somoni, the price of one kilogram of sugar has risen from 7.10 to 7.50 somoni and the price of one kilogram of rice has risen on average from 5.00 to 7.00 somoni.  Potato and onion prices have risen from 1.30 to 1.50 somoni each. 

The meat prices have remained the same.  The price of one kilogram of lamb is 28.00 somoni, the price of one kilogram of beef is 27.00 somoni and the price of one kilogram of chicken is 17.00 somoni.

Meanwhile, the flour prices have decreased during the Ramadan month.  The price for a 50-kilogram sack of Kazakh wheat flour decreased from 135.00 somoni on August 1 to 130.00 somoni on August 26 and the price for a 50-kilogram sack of domestic wheat flour decreased from 132.00 somoni to 120.000 somoni over the same period.

Carrot prices decreased on average from 1.50 somoni on August 1 to 1.30 somoni on August 26.
