DUSHANBE, October 3, 2011, Asia-Plus  -- Electricity rating has not yet been introduced in the regions and electricity supply disruptions that have been reported in some areas in recent days are connected with ongoing repair-and-renewal operations, Nozirjon Yodgori a spokesman for Barqi Tojik power holding (the state-owned utility responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Tajikistan), told Asia-Plus today.

According to him, Barqi Tojik has spent more than 43 million somoni this year for the repair-and-renewal operations.  “Tajikistan’s power plants now generate a total of 38 million kWh of electrical power per day,” the spokesman said.

Measures rationing electricity supplies are usually introduced in all regions except Dushanbe and seek to curb the country''s rising electricity consumption. The rationing is introduced in October or November and lasts through April next year.  The rationing results in the supply of daily electrical power being reduced to 12 or 10 hours.  In addition to curbing rising consumption, the move also stems from a decline in the water level in the country''s reservoirs powering the main hydroelectric power plants.
