DUSHANBE, December 15, 2011, Asia-Plus – On Tuesday December 13, Tajik Ambassador to the European Union Rustamjon Soliyev met with Ms. Elisabeth Jeggle, Member of the European Parliament (MEP), member of the EP Delegation for relations with Central Asia and Mongolia.

The two reportedly discussed issues related to state and prospects of expansion of interparliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union.

During the meeting, Ambassador Soliyev drew attention of MEP Jeggle to report released by the CA-News (UZ) news agency on December 9.

Referring to the Uzbek MFA information department, CA-News reported that during a meeting with Uzbek ecologists in Brussels on November 29, MEP Jeggle allegedly supported Uzbekistan’s position regarding inexpediency of construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Tajikistan.

Ms. Elisabeth Jeggle noted that information about her negative position regarding Roghun’s construction did not correspondent to the facts.  She noted that during the meeting with Uzbek ecologists she called on them to wait for the findings of assessment studies for the Roghun hydroelectricity project as well as establish close cooperation between the governments and the parliaments of Central Asia’s countries over water and energy issues.

MEP Jeggle regretted to note that the Uzbek side has misrepresented her position regarding Roghun’s construction already for the second time during this year.

At the end of conversation, Ms. Jeggle asked Tajik diplomat to bring her official position regarding Roghun’s construction to the Tajik government’s notice and bring down it through media.

Ms. Elisabeth Jeggle is a German politician and Member of the European Parliament for Baden-Württemberg. She is a member of the conservative Christian Democratic Union, part of the European People''s Party.
