DUSHANBE, February 2, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sharif Rahimzoda yesterday received Vietnamese Ambassador to Tajikistan Le Man Luan.
According to the press center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT), the sides considered a broad range of issues related to economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Vietnam.
They reportedly outlined sectors like energy, agriculture, tourism, light industry and minerals, as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries. The two also pointed to the necessity of arranging business forums and exchange of experience betweens specialists.
Eight Tajik-Vietnamese joint ventures engaged in cocoon processing and silk production now operate in Tajikistan, the source said.
According to data of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Vietnam in 2011 valued at more than US$1.40 million. This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Vietnam estimated at US$806,800 and Tajikistan’s imports from Vietnam worth US$668,800.
