DUSHANBE, July 28, 2012, Asia-Plus – Hike in wheat and flour prices caused by dry year may lead to rise in prices of other basic food products in Tajikistan, an official source at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

“Therefore, families in Tajikistan ought to have some supplies of food products,” the source noted.

According to him, grain and flour prices have remained stable in Tajikistan in recent years.  “Meanwhile, the grain-exporting countries have begun to raise prices this month,” the source added.

Kazakhstan now provides the bulk of Tajikistan’s grain imports.  Over the first six months of this year, Tajikistan has reportedly imported 175,000 tons of grain and more than 50,000 tons of wheat flour.
