DUSHANBE, September 4, 2012, Asia-Plus -- More than 120 tons of honey, 150 tons of melons and 760 tons of other farm produce were offered at the honey and melon festival that took place in Dushanbe on September 2.
The festival was held at five Dushanbe’s bazaars, including Shohmansour, Varzob, Qariyai Bolo, Sakhovat and Dehqon.
An official source at the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) says farmers from Gorno Badakhshan, Sughd and Khatlon provinces, as well as districts subordinate to the center put their products on display at the fair.
Honeys and melons were reportedly sold at relatively low prices. “Thus, the price of one kilogram of honey was 30.00 somoni and the price of one kilogram of melon was 8.00 somoni,” said the source. “Other agricultural goods were sold at prices 30-50 percent lower than the current market prices.”
