DUSHANBE, October 4, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- The Belarusian Private News Agency or shortly BelaPAN has ranked Tajikistan third among the former Soviet republics in terms of inflation over the first eight months of this year.  In August, Tajikistan was ranked second among the former Soviet republics in terms of inflation.

In August, prices reportedly rose 2.3 percent in Belarus and 1.3 percent in Tajikistan.  They are followed by Kyrgyzstan -- 0.9 percent, Estonia -- 0.5 percent, Moldova – 0.4 percent, Kazakhstan -- 03 percent, Lithuania – 0.2 percent, Georgia and Russia – 0.1 percent each.

In August, price deflation was reported in Latvia and Ukraine – 0.3 percent each, Armenia – 0.4 percent, and Azerbaijan – 0.5 percent.

In eight months to September 1, prices has risen 14.6 percent in Belarus, 4.6 percent in Russia, 4.2 percent in Tajikistan, 3.2 percent in Kazakhstan, 3.1 percent in Estonia, 2.5 percent in Lithuania, 2.0 percent in Kyrgyzstan, 1.5 percent in Moldova, and 1.2 percent in Latvia.

Over the same eight-month period, price deflations has been reported in Ukraine – 0.4 percent, Georgia – 2.0 percent, Armenia – 2.3 percent, and Azerbaijan – 3.3 percent.

Over the report period, prices have risen 3.4 percent in Uzbekistan and fallen 1.8 percent in Turkmenistan.

Meanwhile, According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, prices for products of food industry rose 1.9 percent in August this year, while non-foodstuffs rose in cost by 0.3 percent in August.  Prices and rates for services rendered to the population rose 0.3 percent in August.  

Over the first eight months of this year, prices for products of food industry in Tajikistan have risen in cost by 2.0 percent, non-foodstuffs have risen in cost by 4.1 percent, and prices and rates for services rendered to the population have risen 13.0 percent.

The country’s government expects the year-end inflation to stand at 10.5 percent in 2012.
