DUSHANBE, January 22, 2013, Asia-Plus  -- Tajik national air carrier, Tajik Air, intends to ask the government to write off its debts that accrued after the restructuring of the company in 2008.

Tajik Air director-general Firouz Hamroyev told reporters in Dushanbe on January 21 that Tajik Air now owes 27 million to Dushanbe International Airport, 14 million somoni to Khujand International Airport, 8 million somoni to Tajikaeronavigatsiya (Tajik air navigation) and 17.5 million somoni to Fuel Supply Company.  “These debts have been frozen for the periods from three to seven years,” he noted.

“We ask the government to write off the debts that are the legacy of the restructuring process,” said Hamroyev.  “Besides, there are disputable debts that may be written off since the limitation period has expired.”

Until 2008, Tajik Air had an absolute monopoly in Tajikistan’s air transport, owning all planes, airports, and airport and flight services.  As a result of restructuring, Tajik Air was split up into several separate companies.
