DUSHANBE, May 30, 2013, Asia-Plus – The Khoburabot Pass in the Darvoz district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) is expected to be reopened for traffic in early June, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).
This pass links the Tajik capital with Gorno Badakhshan through the Tavildara district in the Rasht Valley (eastern Tajikistan).
An official source at a MoT says an expert group has recently inspected the Labijar-Tavildara-Qalai Khumb road that runs across the Khoburabot Pass. The MoT specialists have also inspected the Kulob-Drvoz road.
“A number of shortcomings have been revealed during the inspection of the roads and the ministry has ordered to remove those shortcomings by the end of May,” the source added.
The Khoburabot Pass on the Dushanbe-Khorog route is usually closed for traffic in November or December due to heavy snowfalls and it is reopened for traffic in May or early June.
