DUSHANBE, June 6, 2013, Asia-Plus – The Khoburabot Pass in the Darvoz district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) was reopened for traffic on June 4, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).
This pass links the Tajik capital with Gorno Badakhshan through the Tavildara district in the Rasht Valley (eastern Tajikistan).
An official source at a MoT says an expert group has recently inspected the Labijar-Tavildara-Qalai Khumb road that runs across the Khoburabot Pass. The MoT specialists have also inspected the Kulob-Drvoz road.
“A number of shortcomings that were revealed during the inspection of the Labijar-Tavildara-Qalai Khumb road were removed and the pass was reopened for traffic,” said the source. “Although the carrying capacity of the road through Tavildara is 40 tons, the carrying capacity of the bridge on the 65th kilometer of the road is only 20 tons.”
The Khoburabot Pass on the Dushanbe-Khorog route is usually closed for traffic in November or December due to heavy snowfalls and it is reopened for traffic in May or early June.
