DUSHANBE, June 19, 2013, Asia-Plus – President Emomali Rahmon yesterday attended a ceremony of an official opening of a new textile enterprise in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province.

According to the president’s official website, the enterprise has been constructed on the basis of old silk factory and Khujand-Invest-Cotton has spent 2 million somoni for reconstruction of several buildings of the factory and 55 million somoni for purchase of state-of-the-art equipment.

The enterprise with capacity of processing up to 4,000 tons of cotton into manufactured goods has reportedly created 1,100 new jobs.

The enterprise management plans to increase its capacity to 7,000 tons of cotton per year and increase the number of working places to 3,000.

The enterprise now has sewing, spinning and dyeing workshops.    

Two other textile enterprises controlled by Khujand-Invest-Cotton – Nassoji Khujand and Nekou Khujand – reportedly have a total capacity of processing 7,000 tons of cotton per year.  More than 1,400 people now work for these enterprises.

Over the first five months of this year, 62 new industrial enterprises have been introduced into operation in Sughd province.  These enterprises have reportedly created 2,000 new jobs.
