DUSHANBE, August 5, 2013, Asia-Plus -- The Electricity Sales Department that was reestablished at Barqi Tojik (Tajik state-run electricity supplier) in early July this year has reportedly proved its efficiency.
“Over the last month alone, the collection of funds from the public and enterprises reached 57.2 million somoni, which is 16.2 million somoni more than in June,” Nozirjon Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik told Asia-plus in an interview.
Amonullo Sadulloyev, formerly head of Tajikenergosnab (Power Supply), now heads the Electricity Sales Department, which is engaged in the collection of funds for consumed electricity inside the country and it does not work with external consumers.
Some Tajik media outlets say that Amonullo Sadulloyev is brother of Hasan Asadullozoda, who is Chairman of the Board of Orienbonk and brother-in-law of President Emomali Rahmon.
The Electricity Sales Department had functioned at Barqi Tojik before as well but it was abolished in 2010. The department was reestablished in early July this year.
Meanwhile, the work on implementing the individual plan for restructuring Barqi Tojik designed for 2011-2018 is progressing.
Barqi Tojik is the state-owned utility responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Tajikistan. The Government plans to unbundle Barqi Tojik and create an enabling environment for private sector investment in the power sector. The main objectives of this project are to create three independent structures by unbundling Barqi Tojik: generation, transmission and distribution.
