DUSHANBE, August 5, 2013, Asia-Plus -- Wheat flour prices have fallen 15 percent in six months to July 1, 2013, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT).

Experts from a MoEDT attribute the fall in wheat flour prices in the country to increase in the international and domestic wheat productions.

Kazakhstan reportedly provides the bulk of Tajikistan’s wheat and flour imports.  “Kazakhstan increased wheat production and the world wheat production has increased this year,” the source said.

According to the statistical data of the MoEDT, 479,000 tons of wheat has been produced in Tajikistan over the first six months of this year, which is 107,000 tons more than in the same period last.     

Increase in domestic wheat production has reportedly led to decrease in four imports.  Over the first six months of this year, Tajikistan has imported 103,000 tons of wheat flour, which was 87,000 tons fewer than in January-June 2012.
