DUSHANBE, October 10, 2013, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan has increased cement production considerably, according to the Ministry of Energy and Industry (MoEI).

An official source at a MoEI says that only 29,000 tons of cement have been produced in Tajikistan over the first seven months of this year.

“Meanwhile, more than 90,000 tons of cement were produced in August and September alone,” the source said.

According to him, it has become possible due to introducing a new cement plant into operation in the Yovon district and introducing the first coal-fired rotary kiln into operation at the Dushanbe cement plant.

A new cement plant working on coal was introduced into operation in the Yovon district in early September this year.  Tajikistan-China joint venture, Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd, has constructed this plant with annual capacity of one million tons of cement.  Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd has reportedly used the latest technologies to build the plant and it meets regional environmental requirements.

This cement plant now produces up to 3,000 tons of Portland cement grade 400 and 500 per day.  The price of one ton of cement produced by this plant is 700-720 somoni.

Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd was established by Huaxin Zhongya Investment (Wuhan) Co., Ltd, the subsidiary of Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd, and Gayur Limited Liability Company.  Huaxin Zhongya Investment (Wuhan) Investment Co., Ltd assumes the 75% ownership interest and Gayur Limited Liability Company owns 25 percent of the shares in Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd.

The Dushanbe cement plant was reopened on October 2 after being closed for ten months.  The first coal-fired rotary kiln installed at the plant is expected to produce 180,000 tons of cement a year.

China’s company, Beijing Uni-Construction Group Co., Ltd has installed the coal-fired rotary kiln at the Dushanbe cement plant, which is Tajikistan’s largest cement-producing enterprise.

The Dushanbe cement plant has four large rotary kilns with capacity of 600 tons cement per day each and two small rotary kilns with capacity of 300 tons each.

The Dushanbe cement plant with rated capacity of 1.2 million tons was not in operation for ten months due to lack of natural gas.

Current price for one ton of cement produced by the Dushanbe cement plant is 850 somoni.

According to the statistical data from the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan, 823,800 tons of cement have been delivered to the country over the first eight months of this year, which 229,000 tons more than in the same period last year.

Tajikistan’s annual requirements in cement are some 3 million tons.  Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Iran now provide the bulk of Tajikistan’s cement imports.
