DUSHANBE, January 30, 2014, Asia-Plus – The volume of cash in circulation in Tajikistan rose 22.3 percent in a year to December 31, 2013, reaching 4.485 billion somoni, Abdujabbor Shirinov, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 30.
“Compared to 2002, when Tajik national currency, the somoni, was introduced into circulation, the volume of cash in circulation has increased 41 times,” Tajik central bank head noted.
Last year, the gross domestic product (GPD) in Tajikistan was recorded at 1,041 USD, while it was little more than 900.00 USD in 2012, Shirinov added.
