DUSHANBE, February 10, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Small hydropower plants (HPPs) controlled by Barqi Tojik (the state-controlled utility responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Tajikistan) generated a total of 5.3 million kWh of electricity last year, which is 300,000 kWh more than during 2012, an official source at Tajik power holding told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon.
According to him, only fifteen of Barqi Tojik-controlled small power plants are operational now. The source found difficulty in giving the exact number of small HPPs controlled by Tajik power holding.
Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources (MoEWR), a total number of small HPPs has reached 310 by 2014 and eight of them were introduced into operation last year.
